Art lovers coming to Saint Tropez this summer will be delighted to learn that there is a new art gallery in town!
The highly acclaimed international art group Bel-Air Fine Art, which was founded ten years ago in Geneva, recently opened a gallery in the heart of Saint Tropez.
Taking over the popular space of The Galerie des Lices, The Bel-Air Fine Art group is a hugely welcomed addition to the already burgeoning art scene in Saint Tropez, home to our portfolio of luxury villas to rent and buy.
The Bel-Air Fine Art group was founded by Francois Chabanian in Switzerland in 2004. The renowned contemporary art investor has since opened galleries in Crans-Montana, Verbier, Porto-Cervo and Forte del Marmi with Saint Tropez being the group’s latest acquisition.
A spokesman for the group said: “This is an opportunity to discover the catalogue of one of the leading groups of galleries in the field of contemporary art.”
He added that the gallery planned for three “great trends” to stand out during the gallery’s first summer in Saint-Tropez. These trends included ‘new realists’, with work by Arman, César, Klein and Niki de Saint Phalle, the ‘best hyperrealists’ highlighted by work by Bernadi and Spence, and finally ‘masters of contemporary art’.
One of the latest artists to be exhibited in the gallery on boulevard Louis Blanc, a short stroll from our most central Saint Tropez villas to rent, was the so-called King of Middle Eastern neo-pop art, Marwan Chamaa.
Chamaa was born in Beirut, in the Lebanon, but was raised in Munich before moving to Washington DC. His latest series of work is entitled “Toffees, Superheroes, Fried eggs and Chocolates” and is said to depict the struggle between good and evil on a ‘back ground of extreme consumerism’.
The gallery is also currently exhibiting four huge sculptures by American sculptor Rafael Barrios around the port of Saint Tropez and in other central squares around the village.
Venezuelan Barrios, who was born in Louisiana, is internationally recognized for his art with many prestigious galleries around the world owning his works such as the Caracas Contemporary Art Museum in Venezuela, the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Canada, and the Museum of Outdoor Sculpture of Alcalá de Henarés, Spain.
