K Jacques: the Tropezienne Footwear

Not to be mistaken for an everyday summer shoe, this is a K Jacques – a beautifully handcrafted sandal, a version of which has been gracing the feet of everyone who is anyone in Saint Tropez for decades.

Still very much in vogue with the new generation of international jet setters, the first pair of K Jacques sandals was created in a small workshop in rue Allard, downtown Saint Tropez, in 1933.

They were the brainchild of a talented couple called Mr and Mrs Jacques Kéklikian, who had come to France, and more specifically Saint Tropez, as refugees from Armenian.

K Jacques the Tropezienne Footwear 1

Each pair of these exquisitely soft leather sandals were made to measure for customers that called in to the tiny workshop, including a young Brigitte Bardot who first came to Saint Tropez in 1954 as a young starlet filming And God Created Woman.

Other legendry feet to have worn a pair of K Jacques over the years include those belonging to French writer Francoise Giroud, America actress Joan Collins, painters Cocteau and Picasso, and more recently supermodel Kate Moss and actresses Miranda Kerr and Hilary Duff.

In the 80-plus years since the company was founded, the K Jacques brand has gone from strength to strength, with three sales outlets in Saint Tropez itself as well as a showroom shop in the Marais quartier of Paris.

The original Ks are sadly no longer of this life, with Jacques passing away in 1989 followed by his wife in 1997, but the company is still very much in the family, and is now run by the couple’s children. And although some of the styles of K Jacques have not changed since the pre-war days, there are today many more designs and colours involved in making these hand-made sandals.

Each design is given its own imaginative label, including names such as Homere, Picon, Epicure, Gandhi and Bikini, each as wonderfully creative as the next.

The company now employs more than 25 people and exports to all corners of the globe, including America, Japan and Africa.

Saint Tropez Beaches: What to look out for in 2016

Days lounging around on a white sandy beach may seem a long way away right now, but we find the months pass with alarming speed these days.

So we thought we would offer you a flicker of light at the end of this recurring ‘tunnel’, otherwise known as winter, and look ahead at some of the best beach clubs due to open in Saint Tropez this year.

Saint Tropez is famous for its highly exclusive and luxurious beach clubs, with dozens lining the three mile long white sandy Pampelonne Beach. The first, the legendary Tahiti Beach Club, opened in 1946, with arguably the most sought–after establishment, Club 55, setting up a short distance away on the same stretch of sand some nine years later – in 1955.

Saint Tropez Beaches What to look out for in 2016 (2)

It is virtually impossible to pick out our favourites, as they all offer an excellent service and share the same incredibly beautiful backdrop, but if we had to choose five, they would probably be:

  • Relative newcomer Riva Plage opened its doors to customers at the beginning of the last year. Situated along the Patch stretch of Pampelonne Beach close to some of our premier properties for sale and rent, it is a welcome addition to the more established clubs along this stretch of coast. For reservations call +33 (0) 4 94 79 96 95.
  • Another new restaurant which we expect to be making waves again this summer is Bagatelle, which opened in 2014 close to Route d’Epi. Bagatelle is owned by Aymeric Clemente and Remi Laba, a dynamic duo who also have successful restaurants in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, St Barths and Sao Paolo. bistrotbagatelle.com
  • We love the cool vibe and great tunes you can enjoy at Moorea, which boasts one of the most famous bars on the beach, Claudy’s Bar. The cocktails here are particularly good, as are the massages which you can enjoy in cabins on the beach. mooreaplage.fr
  • For a really fun afternoon on the beach, we recommend you head to Nikki Beach which belongs to the same family as Nikki Beach in Miami and St Barths. Here you can party to your heart’s content around the pool at this popular club set back from the beach by a few hundred metres. Nikki Beach will open this year for Easter, on March 27th. nikkibeach.com/sttropez

We mentioned Club 55 earlier, but we think this world-famous club deserves a few more lines. Hidden behind a discrete garden in the middle of Pampelonne beach, Club 55 is the favoured Saint Tropez restaurant of world politicians, Hollywood stars and supermodels. Here you will find delicious grilled fish, simple salads and bags of charm and ambience.  www.club55.fr

Half Term in Saint Tropez’s Villa Modernity

villa_modernity_st_tropez

The weather may be turning slightly autumnal, but that doesn’t mean that you have to strike Saint Tropez off your ‘To Visit’ list.

In fact, if you like long walks in beautiful sunshine along empty beaches then a half term holiday in this magical corner of France is probably just up your street.

Schools break up in two weeks, and where better to get some well needed R&R than in some of the most luxurious villas Saint Tropez still available to rent in October.

Take Villa Modernity, for example. This stunning villa available to rent and buy really does live up to its name in every sense and would make the perfect home from home in which to enjoy the first throes of winter 2015.

With floor to ceiling windows in every room and views on to the perfectly manicured terraced garden, this six bedroom villa is the ideal rental property for a large group of friends or family who want to get away this month.

Villa Modernity has recently been renovated to combine ultra-contemporary interior design with family-friendly finishing making it one of our favourite Saint Tropez rentals, now also for sale.

The house itself centres on a huge and spacious sitting room with doors which open on to the terrace and a fireplace for when the evenings get a little cooler. It also boasts a stylish kitchen, dining area and six large bedrooms, all of which are ensuite apart from one.

Meanwhile, outside in the large and totally private garden which is screened by tall pine trees you will find a Jacuzzi, swimming pool and several shaded seating areas for when the sun gets too strong.  And it does, even at this late stage in the year.

But perhaps Villa Modernity’s greatest feature is its enviable location near Boulevard Patch, one of Saint Tropez’s most prestigious waterfront sectors just a short walk from the white sand of  Pampelonne beach.  This incredible property is just 900 metres from beach clubs such as Bora Bora and Moorea yet also just a short drive from the centre of Saint Tropez.

Superyachts Spotted in Saint Tropez This Summer

superyachts_st_tropez

The former fishing village of Saint Tropez is so popular with the rich and famous that heads barely turn when a celebrity is spotted wandering along its white sandy beaches.

This summer has seen the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Bono and Elton John and many more sauntering along the famous Saint Tropez beach at Pampelonne before stopping at the stars’ favourite lunch spot, Club 55, without so much as a second glance.

Well-known faces are two a penny in the south of France’s most glamorous resort, so to get really noticed these days stars have to arrive on a seriously mega yacht – which we’ve also seen in abundance this year.

The season kicked off this year with photos of a bare-chested Cristiano Ronaldo doing some kind of work-out on the foredeck of a ridiculously large superyacht in waters off Saint Tropez. Once he’d been put through his paces the Manchester midfielder was joined on board by Sir Philip Green and his family who are known to be fans of Saint Tropez – and superyachts.

Also making waves in Saint Tropez this summer was supermodel Elle Macpherson who was pictured jumping from the upper deck of the superyacht she and her family hired for one week this July. The yacht, named Mad Summer, is a 56 metre motor yacht which has previously won the Boat International World Superyacht Award in the Custom Motor Yacht 51 metres to 65 metres category.

The award-winning yacht comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests with a crew 14, and a week on board can cost up to 325,000 Euros.

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was also photographed on a yacht in Saint Tropez this summer but failed miserably to look anything as nimble as The Body, Elle Macpherson.

The 78-year-old man was snapped stumbling into a tender, where he gashed his head on the canopy. The unfortunate accident left him with an unsightly cut on his forehead which he soothed with ice as he made his way to his awaiting superyacht. The former Italian Prime Minister was on holiday in the south of France with his daughter Marina and her children.

Salon Vivre Cote Sud St Tropez

It finally feels as if spring is here; which in many people habitually inspires a spot of spring cleaning in their homes.
And where better to go if you are short of a few ideas on how to spruce up your holiday home in Saint Tropez than the Salon Vivre Cote Sud St Tropez, a home design show which will take place in the famous fishing village next month (April). [Read more…]

24 Hours in Saint Tropez

Luxury cars in St Tropez

If you had only 24 hours in Saint Tropez this summer, what would you do? It would seem an enormous shame to leave your luxury villa in the South of France after just arriving, but if that’s all the time you had, where would you head for the best food, wine and fun?

Here are our suggestions for a night and day to remember in this unforgettable town:

6pm

This is a good as time as any to arrive in Saint Tropez. For your first drink of the evening – that all important apéro – we suggest you head to White Bar, White 1921, Place des Lices for a coupe to celebrate the fact that you’ve arrived.

www.white1921.com

8pm

For a blast of something different before heading for supper, why not grab yourself a Red One (Scotch, amaretto, lemon, strawberry and fig syrup) at the Pan dei Palais Hotel, where you can lounge on four-poster beds around the pool.

www.pandei.com

10pm

It’s fashionable to eat late in the South of France, so relax and enjoy the last sips of your cocktail before sauntering off to the Hotel Sezz, on the Route des Salins, for a Mediterranean meal in the restaurant, called Colette after the French novelist Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. Here you can tuck into roasted scallops under the stars whilst listening to the tunes of the resident DJ. Who could ask for more?

www.hotelsezz.com

Midnight

No night in Saint Tropez would be complete without a trip to Les Caves Du Roy, the legendary nightspot in the equally famous Byblos Hotel. Bring a full wallet, and your dancing shoes and you will be sure to have a brilliant night.

www.lescavesduroy.com

3am

Not ready to retreat back to your luxury St Tropez villa but in need of a change of scene, then we suggest you pop along to the VIP Room for a night cap listening to some live music. This popular venue is open until 6am in the summer season so no need to rush anywhere.

www.viproom.fr

7am

Those with stamina can pop into the Senequier on the Port for a coffee and a pause whilst watching the rest of Saint Tropez slowly come to life, before heading back to their rented villa for a quick 40 winks.

www.senequier.com

11 am

Revived by a quick cat nap, it’s back into the heart of Saint Tropez for a refreshing citron pressé in Le Sporting, a laid back bar on the very animated Place des Lices where the brave hearted can do some shopping in the weekly market.

Midday

There’s only one place for lunch if you only have 24 hours in Saint Tropez, and that is on the beach with the sand in your toes and the breeze of the Mediterranean on your face. There is a plethora of excellent beach clubs to choose from, but if you want to go all out, then we suggest Club 55 for its pure and unadulterated sophistication and charm.

www.club55.fr

4pm

To ensure you leave Saint Tropez on a high, drop into Nikki Beach near our most sought after waterfront properties to rent for a final cocktail and dance. This beach club has become a hot spot for international jet setters and celebrities who come to Saint Tropez each summer, and couldn’t come more highly recommended.

Tennis fans do not necessarily equate the South of France to exciting tournaments, but there are in fact a number of extremely important competitions which take place within a short distance of our St Tropez House villas.

Take the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, for example. This glamorous event on the edge of the Mediterranean in the Principality of Monaco always attracts some of the biggest names in tennis and is a fabulous day out from St Tropez.

Last year, Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka won the ATP tournament which is held at the Monte-Carlo Country Club every April, but for the eight years from 2004-20012 the top prize went to Rafael Nadal, from Spain.

The tournament will this year take place from 11th to 19th April, and is easily accessible from our villas in St Tropez, either by helicopter to the heliport in nearby Fontvieille or by car.

Another significant tournament is held every May at the Nice LTC approximately 90 minutes drive from our portfolio of luxury villas with tennis courts in St Tropez. This tournament is, like the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, is an integral part of the ATP World Tour and attracts some of the most promising young players from all corners of the globe.

This year, the Open de Nice Cote d’Azur will take place from 17th to 23rd May, when the French Riviera will be particularly busy with both the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix being held simultaneously.

Perhaps our favourite tennis event which will no doubt appeal to those of your renting one of our St Tropez House villas this summer is the Classic Tennis Tour, which will take place in the Port of St Tropez on the 12th and 13th July.
