Few would contest that Monaco is a Principality with many jewels in its crown. Clearly, many residents continue to be attracted by factors such as the exceptional property in Monaco, its climate and high class facilities. However, the Principality also has a wider cultural appeal with an excellent range of museums, galleries and events on offer.

Ballet is just one of the art-forms that has enjoyed immense popularity and success in Monaco. Monaco’s royal family have always shown a great appreciation for the arts and ballet has been no exception. In 1985, Princess Caroline established ‘Les ballets de Monte-Carlo’, an official classical ballet company for Monaco. It is both Princess Caroline and another exceptional individual who can be credited with bringing Monaco ballet to the forefront in recent years.

Davis Cup tennis back in Monte-Carlo

France have chosen the idyllic setting of the Monte-Carlo Country Club as the venue for their upcoming Davis Cup quarter final clash with the USA, set for the weekend of 6th – 8th April. This will be the first time that France have played a Davis Cup tie at the venue, which also hosts the annual ATP Rolex Masters 1000 event a fortnight later.

France and the USA boast one of the oldest Davis Cup rivalries, dating back to their first meeting in 1905. The Americans are currently leading the fifteen match head-to-head series 8-7, after they won the most recent clash in 2008. Playing at home has often proved crucial in this fixture. In fact, only twice has the away team escaped with a victory – the USA winning 4-1 in Grenoble in 1982, and France winning 3-2 in Philadelphia in 1927.

This Coming March, Go Pink and Walk for a Great Cause in Monaco

The principality of Monaco is organizing its first ever Pink Ribbon Walk to raise money to fight breast cancer and raise awareness to educate the public on screening and prevention. The event, which is organized by Pink Ribbon Monaco, will take place on Sunday, the 18th of March, from 9:30 to 11:30am in Port Hercule. All money collected will be donated to various research centers, hospitals and in some cases to individual patients in need.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, comprising 16% of all female cancers. It is estimated that 519,000 women died in 2004 due to breast cancer, and although it is thought to be a disease of the developed world, a majority (69%) of all breast cancer deaths occur in developing countries (WHO Global Burden of Disease, 2004).

Dog Portrait Photo Shoot in Monaco in support of S.P.A.

Naneen Rossi, a photographer based in Monaco, is embarking (no pun intended!) on a new venture, to photograph the fastidious and demanding clientele of the canine world. She will be collaborating with bespoke carpet makers, Fashion for Floors (who produced the red carpet for last July’s Royal Wedding), in this endeavour.

The ‘Dog Portrait Photo Shoot’ takes place on Friday 17th and Thursday 23rd February at the Fashion for Floors showroom in Monaco and is in aid of a very worthwhile cause, the Société Protectrice des Animaux (S.P.A. Monaco).
