This year saw several new Pampelonne beach clubs opening up in St Tropez, offering sunbeds, beachside cocktails and out-of-this-world alfresco dining. Let’s look at what they promised, and what their guests thought of them.
La Réserve
This Mediterranean-style restaurant headed by Michelin-starred Eric Canino promised a boho-chic cabana vibe, with burnt orange cushions and straw lampshades adorning the space. Menu highlights included tempura of courgette flowers, mango tuna tartare and ceviche, and main courses of rock lobster, rib-eye steak or grilled lamb skewers.
Guests enthused about how cosy and private it felt, providing a hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the main beach.
Byblos Beach Club
Byblos promised a chilled-out but stylish family-friendly atmosphere, and Ducasse-trained chef Rocco Seminara’s menu included burrata with tomatoes or truffles, king crab with avocado, beef tartare, grilled catch-of-the-day or spare ribs of pork with Corsican honey.
Guests loved the stylish and understated décor, the attentive, professional and likeable staff and the divine Pavlova.
La Serena Beach
Offering a relaxed and unfussy décor of pale wood, creamy beige cushions and splashes of turquoise, its menu highlights included satay tuna cubes, spider crab linguini, marinated beef tataki and share platters for long and leisurely lunches.
Guests raved about the good food and service, fresh fish dishes, cocktails and the chilled music. La Serena was successful in creating an atmosphere where people could kick off their shoes and relax, with one guest saying it ‘felt like being at home’.
Loulou Beach Club
This Pampelonne beach club promised an uncomplicated French-Italian Riviera menu, highlights of which included shared mezze dishes, asparagus risotto, linguine with fresh clams and extravagant lobster creations.
Loulou was wildly popular! Guests called it a ‘highlight of their visit’ and ‘the best experience this season’, enthusing about the nice setting and vibe, the great ambience, and good quality food. They also enjoyed the DJ sets, lunchtime dancing and club atmosphere after 16:00.
Verde Beach
Verde Beach offered a cosy but contemporary décor, with luxury relaxation by day and partying with live DJs from 17:00. The menu was created by Michelin-starred Thibault Sombardier, and its highlights included sea bream carpaccio, grilled tuna tataki, wagyu carpaccio and sea bass tartare.
Guests raved about the good food, music and beautiful setting, the amazing atmosphere, excellent service and friendly waiters, and the variety of tasty dishes and generous portions. Some even referred to it as the ‘best in St Tropez’.
