A vineyard located in the South of France – tantalizingly close to our portfolio of villas to rent – has just won a highly-acclaimed international wine award.
The Chateau d’Esclans winery, which is based in the hills above Frejus and a short drive from St Tropez, has been named as the European Winery of the Year by an influential magazine for wine aficionados .
The Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded the prestigious accolade to the vineyard for its rose wine, which marks the first time ever that the award has been given to a rose producing winery.
Each year, editors of Wine Enthusiast Magazine honour wineries and breweries that have made outstanding achievements in the wine and beverage world.
The award for European Winery of the Year was awarded to Chateau d’Esclans because the vineyard has “helped change perceptions of rose from inexpensive and sweet to wines of character and quality”.
In particular, a wine produced by the vineyard called Garrus, or Whispering Angel, was singled-out for its outstanding taste.
Garrus was launched in 2006, and has since become extremely popular with wine connoisseurs all over the world – from the terraces of our St Tropez House properties to villas in Miami and superyacht dotted across the globe.
Only 18,000 bottles of Whispering Angel are produced per year, and although priced at over 100 Euros per bottle it is in high demand.
The rose is sourced from old Grenache vines mixed with Cinsault, Merlot, Mourvedre, Syrah and Tibourne grapes and the end result is the Dom Pérignon of rosé wines.
Château d’Esclans will receive the prestigious award at an annual black tie event in New York next month that is billed as the Oscars of the wine industry.
Our St Tropez House guests can toast the winery’s success with their own bottle of chilled Whispering Angel which can be bought at the Chateau d’Esclans’ own shop on the estate in La Motte en Provence. The vineyard organizes special tours and tasting on demand, which makes a great afternoon excursion from our luxury villas in Saint Tropez.
Alternatively contact the Chateau d’Esclans to find out where you can pick up a bottle in Saint Tropez itself. For more information go here.
