Saint Tropez is a Mecca for fashionistas who flock to the South of France resort every year to soak up the sunshine, the atmosphere and the artistic inspiration.
One perfect example of this is the latest collection by French designer Sophie Mechaly for her own brand Paul & Joe, which will next year celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The talented designer and founder of Paul & Joe has revealed that her 2015 collection was largely inspired by family holidays in Saint Tropez, home to our portfolio of luxury villas.
Parisian born Sophie regularly came to the South of France for summer holidays with her fashion designer parents Yvan and Nicole Haggiag, the creative behind the ‘Garage’ shirt business.
It is memories of her time holidays in Saint Tropez – and in particular her mother’s free-spirited 70s style – that led her to create her latest Spring collection for Paul & Joe, a label she set up and named after her two sons Paul and Joe. The brand quickly gained fans and is now known as being a ‘luxury yet whimsical” French label which manages to be effortlessly chic and glamourous.
Another fashion designer to have been inspired by Saint Tropez is Karl Lagerfeld, who last year launched his Saint Tropez Capsule Collection, notable for its nautical theme which radiated summer.
The collection, which included espadrilles, oversized sunglasses, limited edition beach towels, maxi dresses and tote bags, was dominated by blue marine stars and stripes which became a summer must have.
Lagerfeld said of the town he loves so clearly: “I spent many years of my life here,” he said. “I know Saint-Tropez like I know Paris. The collection is very casual, very down-to-earth.”
