It’s that time of year again, when the thriving metropolis of Nice goes carnival-tastic and giant figurines dance to the sound of music ringing through the town.

It’s a wonderful occasion to jump in a car – or a helicopter – to make the journey from your luxury villa in Saint Tropez to Nice and take in the sights of one of the oldest  and biggest carnivals in the world.

The massive street parade, which kicked off on Friday 14th and will run until March 4th, is the main winter event on the French Riviera and we thoroughly recommend a visit if you are staying in Saint Tropez this month.

This magical fiesta dates back to the 13th century, when the first Corso Carnavalesque tooks place in the centre of Nice, now France’s sixth largest city with a population of more than one million.

In 1873, carnival organisers started to use decorative processions and put up stands for spectators, of which there are more than one million each year.
