Carte Bleue may turn out to be the way forward for anti-secrecy group Wikileaks. After months of difficulties caused by payment gateways in US, Iceland and elsewhere refusing to manage donations to Wikileaks, a French non-profit organization called Fund for the Defense of Net Neutrality has come to the rescue using the Carte Bleue debit card scheme.
Visa, MasterCard and other U.S. payment firms blocked services to WikiLeaks once it made its controversial decision to begin publishing around 250,000 secret State Department cables in December 2010.
In his statement, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange — who remains holed up at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London, where he is seeking asylum — dared Visa to try to foil his latest fundraising plan.
