The Tour de France has been hit by an act of sabotage as tacks have been thrown across the road just as the main pack was approaching. Last year's winner, Cadel Evans, was among the riders hit, suffering two punctures. Worse still, his team could not get another bike to him as the first teammate to arrive also had a flat, and the team van could not get through the narrow roads filled with competitors to reach him. The rest of the latest stage was played out in a surreal situation where current yellow jersey Bradley Wiggins organised for the pack to slow down to allow Evans to catch them up.
The stage was won by Spanish rider Luis Leon Sanchez.
