At the time of writing two British Cyclists are leading the Tour de France – Bradley Wiggins, yellow jersey and hot favorite to win the Tour, and Chris Froome, his brilliant teammate in Team Sky. It’s the first time since David Millar in 2000 that a Brit has had the overall race lead, and this looks like the strongest possibility for a British victory since the Tour began.
This is a golden era for British cycling, with Wiggins, Froome, and Mark Cavendish all big stars. Wiggins won the Paris-Nice race earlier this year, and with his well-drilled Team Sky planning each stage to perfection, there could well be union flags on the Champs Elysee in a couple of weeks.
Earlier this week Wiggins reacted angrily to suggestions that he might be taking drugs, but in a sport where every year there are drug scandals, he surely cannot be surprised at the suggestions.
