George Balanchine (pictured above) and Serge Lifar are without doubt two of the greatest choreographers of the twentieth century. If the former be mostly remembered as the co-founder and ballet master of New York City Ballet, and the latter as the premier danseur and ballet master of the Paris Opera Ballet, both Russian dancers initially gained fame while performing in the French capital for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.

Now more than eighty years after Diaghilev’s death, the Ballet Nice Méditerranée is paying tribute to the common past of those two great artists by presenting four of their works in “Deux Russes à Paris” (Two Russians in Paris).
