After ‘La Môme’ in 2007 and ‘Gainsbourg une vie héroique’ in 2010, French cinema is now paying tribute to another one of the stars of the “Chanson française”, with the new musical biopic ‘Cloclo’. Released on Wednesday and taking as its title the nickname of the late Claude François, the movie retraces the life of one of the most successful French singers of all time, who died in 1978 as a result of being electrocuted in the bathroom of his Paris apartment, at the age of 39.
Famous for his catchy tunes, his love for glittery costumes, his high-energy stage performances and his sexy backup dancers named Les Clodettes, the singer was, and remains even today, 34 years after his tragic death, an icon of French music, whose songs are still played regularly on the radio and in French night-clubs.
