The principality of Monaco is organizing its first ever Pink Ribbon Walk to raise money to fight breast cancer and raise awareness to educate the public on screening and prevention. The event, which is organized by Pink Ribbon Monaco, will take place on Sunday, the 18th of March, from 9:30 to 11:30am in Port Hercule. All money collected will be donated to various research centers, hospitals and in some cases to individual patients in need.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, comprising 16% of all female cancers. It is estimated that 519,000 women died in 2004 due to breast cancer, and although it is thought to be a disease of the developed world, a majority (69%) of all breast cancer deaths occur in developing countries (WHO Global Burden of Disease, 2004).
